Set within a peaceful rural farm setting in the open countryside with views of the Northumbrian Coast, Shearling Cottage is a handy base providing easy access to the coast and the countryside and for visiting nearby attractions such as Bamburgh Castle, Budle Bay, Holy Island & Chillingham Castle. It is part of Birchwood Hall, which is an organic family run farm with sheep, cattle and arable crops.

The cottage comprises a cosy living room with television and a multi fuel stove (fuel for which is provided) and a separate fully equipped kitchen.

 

 

One of the bedrooms has a king sized bed with television and the other has two single beds.

 

 

There is one bathroom providing both a bath and electric shower. The cottage has recently been refurbished yet has retained some of its traditional features making this a cosy but characterful place to feel at home during your stay.

 

 

There is private parking with space for two cars adjacent to the cottage. The cottage has its own large enclosed patio area with garden furniture and views over the open countryside – Bamburgh Castle can be seen in the distance. While a car is advised in order to get to nearby villages, there are also countryside walking trails that lead from the cottage without the need to get into the car, maps of which are provided.

 

Good pubs and dining are plentiful and within walking distance (1 mile) and throughout the local area. There is information in the cottage on local attractions, amenities and walks; including to local dog-friendly pubs close by including in Warenford and Lucker. The Coast, Holy Island (15 miles), Budle Bay (5 miles) and Bamburgh Castle and Beach (6 miles) to name a few are all accessible within 5 – 20 minute drive. For keen cyclists, The Sandstone Way is easily accessible (Belford 6 miles) and for walkers, the Cheviot Hills are near by.

For the walkers:

St Cuthbert’s Way, St Oswald’s Way and the Northumbrian Coastal Path can all be joined at their various stages near to the village of Belford. Further inland, the Cheviot Hill range provide excellent walks and viewpoints from where you can enjoy 360 degree views of the picturesque landscape.

For the cyclists:

The 120 mile Sandstone Way cycle route is a fabulous way to see more of the area. There are also numerous country lanes and bridleways to explore.

The cottage is situated approximately 6 miles from the village of Belford where you can pick up your everyday essentials from the well equipped village Co-op/Post Office. Alternatively a more extensive range of amenities, including large supermarkets, can be found in Berwick-upon-Tweed or Alnwick, both only a 20 minute drive away.

City visits:

The city of Edinburgh is easily accessible by train within 45 minutes from Berwick Railway station. Newcastle can be accessed by car within one hour.
